Tips To Develop A Cleaning Schedule: Shell & Heat Exchanger Tubes

A high-quality product can only be produced if the shell and heat exchanger tubes are free from contamination. But companies face a hard time when fouling occurs. Fouling is the built-up matter in the equipment. Thus, to clean the shell and heat exchanger tubes, the companies have to remove the accumulated matter from them.

But the process to remove these accumulated matters needs to be performed offline, causing the production to stop. This can impact any company’s bottom line, If not carried an offline process, the matter will keep on gathering, impacting the efficiency of heat transfer and so causing an increase in the cost of production and time.

Thus, the operator needs to strike a balance between the occurrence of fouling and its cleaning time. In order to have the lowest impact on the day, you clean these tubes, the operator should consider the following tips for developing an effective cleaning schedule.

1. Allowable Amount Of Fouling

Major fouling develops with time. Thus, the company needs to decide on the standard of the product they wish to deliver and thus ascertain the amount of fouling they can allow, that does not affect the quality of the product. An engineer can very well estimate the allowance of fouling, in the formative stages of designing.
2. Keep Close Eye On The Cost Of Production

As the fouling increases, so does the cost of production. Thus an increase in the cost of production can be a good indicator in estimating the time to clean the heat exchanger tubes.
3. Plan According To Your Production Cycle

The company and its staff know the production cycle very well. Every company has a production cycle that sees both on and offseason or holidays. The company can use the off-season or holidays to clean the heat exchanger tubes. This will help you save the time and cost of production when compared to taking the halt.

Removing Rust And Corrosion From Seamless Pipe (Steel)

Anand Seamless is among the largest seamless pipe manufacturers in India and provides a range of pipes that are suitable for many processes. Being among the leaders, we have had many queries from our clients on the problem of rust and corrosion and how they should deal with them.

Seamless carbon steel pipes are non-corrosion resistant but can develop rust if they are placed in a moist area without any storage. We have mentioned a few ways you that can successfully remove corrosion and rust.

1. Pickling
Pickling can help remove old coatings, scale, and rust. At times, it is used for sandblasting after de-rusting through another process. It makes the surface clean and rough but also emits pollutants in the environment.

2. Using Tools For Rust Removal
You can use a wire steel brush to remove upturned or loose oxide, formed on the surface. Also, there are other tools that reach the Sa2 or Sa3 grade. Find a suitable tool.
Note: If the iron oxide is solid and is stuck to the surface of the seamless steel pipe, then using a cleaning tool will not do the job.

3. De-rusting Spray
A de-rusting spray can help you remove rust, dirt, and oxides from the seamless steel pipes. It helps with increasing the absorption effect of the pipe’s surface while also enhancing the anticorrosive layer. This makes Spraying an ideal method towards rust prevention and protection for seamless pipes.

Selecting Between Seamless Tubes and Pipes

For a layman, seamless tubes and seamless pipes, appear to be same. With a similar structure and shape, a novice in tubes and pipes industry can easily be deluded in picking one for their business. We, Anand Seamless, one of the prominent tubes manufacturers in India, are here to help.
Primary Difference
One of the primary difference is the purpose. Pipes are used for transferring materials and substances like gas, liquid and like, while seamless tubes are used for the purpose of exchanging heat.

Identification
According to the American system, Pipes can be identified by Nominal Bore (NB) or Nominal Pipe Size (NPS), its thickness by schedule, whereas Seamless Tubes are identified by Outside Diameter (OD).

Measures
Seamless Pipes are measured through its inner diameter, while the Seamless tubes are measured by Outside Diameter in inches or millimeters.

Shape
A seamless pipe is a hollow cylinder at length. A seamless tube is available in two shapes- cylindrical and rectangular.

Surface
A seamless tube has to have a smooth surface with no texture, if it is not smooth, it is not a tube. A pipe can have smooth as well as the textured surface.

Cost Of Production
Seamless tubes are expensive for a reason. The cost involved to produce them is higher as they provide higher tolerance and durability than the

Specific Usage
Seamless pipes are god for natural gas, heating oil, and miscellaneous piping used in buildings, while seamless tubes are generally used in tracing lines, tubes for heat exchanger & fired heater and in instrument connection.

Availability
Seamless pipes are available in small as well as the big bore. Seamless Tubes are usually available in small-bore (for process piping) and also in custom sizes (for structural use).
